Imaging using magnets and radio waves
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a highly advanced, painless imaging test that does not use radiation. Instead, it uses powerful magnets and radio waves to create high-quality images of the inside of your body.
Beverly Hospital is a leader in MRI technology. We were the first health care facility in the area to own and operate a 3.0 Tesla scanner, the most powerful MRI scanner available. And now, we offer the Philips Ambient Experience MRI, available at Beth Israel Lahey Health Care Center–Danvers. This MRI gives your radiologist and doctors exceptional imaging results. At the same time, it provides the most soothing patient environment available for MRI scans.
During an MRI, you lie on a table that slowly moves into a long machine. The machine is noisy. You must remain very still so your doctors can get the best images. Because an MRI can take time, some people find the process stressful and difficult.
Ambient MRI is designed to make your experience easier and more pleasant. It’s been clinically proven to make you feel less anxious during your scan. While you’re inside the MRI machine, you can select your own lighting, play music and choose the images that will appear on the ceiling and walls around you as well as in the MRI scanner itself. This allows you to transform the wide and spacious MRI suite into a soothing, mutli-dimensional theater.
You may choose to listen to nature sounds as wildflowers sway in the breeze, relax on the beach, or journey through Southeast Asia, all while you’re in the machine. And that’s just a taste of what’s available. With its peaceful environment and the widest oval open design available today, the Ambient Experience may be especially helpful if you have claustrophobia, anxiety or any other condition that could benefit from a spacious, comfortable MRI screening.
