Language Assistance & Interpreter Services
Services to help communicate your health care needs
Supporting Patients with Language and Interpreter Services
At Beverly Hospital, we help doctors, nurses and your entire care team form a direct relationship with you.
We can provide free on-site, over-the-phone and video interpreting if you don't speak English. We also offer accurate interpretation services if you are deaf or hard of hearing and use American Sign Language (ASL).
We ensure that interpreters are competent in English and your primary language.
We strive to be an equitable and inclusive health care center.
Language Interpreters
All interpreters receive special training as medical interpreters. We provide interpreters in Spanish and many other languages.
Please call 978-853-4565 to request an interpreter.
Your Right to Be Understood
Communicating clearly is essential to getting the care you need. At Beverly Hospital, language services and interpreters are part of your patient rights.
Interpreters are readily available in our Emergency Department. They inform you and your support persons about procedures, medication, and other important information.
We provide in-person interpreters, over-the-phone interpreters and video interpreters.
Even if you speak English, consider accessing a hospital interpreter if English isn't your primary language. Here's why:
- Discussing your medical care requires a trained medical interpreter, not just a support person who can interpret.
- It's easier to understand details in your native language.
- We discourage the use of support persons as interpreters. Please note that federal law prohibits the use of minor children as interpreters.
Language Assistance for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing
If you need an ASL interpreter, one can be provided in-person or through video interpreting.
We also use paper and pen to communicate with you. If you have some hearing capacity, we may use a hearing amplification device.
