About Our Parent Support Programs & Classes

To help you prepare for your new baby, Beverly Hospital offers a series of childbirth education programs led by our own certified childbirth educators and registered nurses.

We offer a variety of education programs for your whole family with both in-person and virtual options, including:

  • Prenatal classes
  • Childbirth classes
  • Childcare classes
  • Postpartum classes with a focus on fourth trimester care
  • Breastfeeding classes

What To Expect During Labor, Delivery & Recovery: 3rd Trimester

Join us for a weekly third trimester virtual session to discover what you can expect during the labor, birth and postpartum periods when you have your baby at Beverly Hospital. Meet the Nurse Managers of Labor and Delivery, Mother Baby Unit and Special Care Nursery. They’ll answer any questions you might have and help you prepare for childbirth.

About the Session

Connecting Young Moms Program

The Connecting Young Moms Program at Beverly Hospital provides comprehensive support for teens and young women before and after giving birth. This is a free program offered by the Beverly Hospital Social Work Department in collaboration with the Parent Education Department.

What You Can Expect

We help young mothers develop healthy and positive parenting skills through health and parenting education, community resources and peer support. Our caring team is here to support you and answer your questions.

Connecting Young Moms offers free:

  • New mom support groups
Birth Doula Services

A birth doula is a trained professional who provides support before, during and after you give birth. Our birth doula services include:

  • In-person or virtual labor support
  • On-call coverage
  • Postpartum follow-up

Childbirth Preparation Classes

We’ve designed our childbirth preparation classes to help young women and their support person(s) prepare for birth. Participants receive a labor bag and a birth ball. We cover these topics:

  • Adjusting to your newborn
  • Breastfeeding education taught by a lactation consultant
  • Comfort measures for labor
  • Emotional aspects of pregnancy
  • Postpartum realities
  • Role of the support person
  • Signs and stages of labor
  • Signs of preterm labor
  • Tour of the Beverly Hospital maternity floors
New Moms Support Group

Our new moms group offers ongoing, weekly support for young mothers and their babies. Beverly Hospital volunteers provide childcare during group meetings. The topics we cover include:

  • Balancing parenting, work and education
  • Child development
  • Enrichment opportunities
  • Healthy relationships
  • Joys and challenges of young parenthood
Our Team

Our team includes clinical social workers and a health and childbirth educator. We understand the importance of interpersonal relationships and offer you privacy and confidentiality.

We work with you to address any issues surrounding your pregnancy and parenting. Our caring and experienced team provides:

  • Assessment of family needs, such as housing, continuing education and financial aid
  • Coordination of resources
  • Education about the physical and emotional changes during and after pregnancy
  • Emotional support
  • Health education
  • Parenting education and skill building

Moms Do Care Program (For Pregnant Women with a History of Substance Use)

The Compass Moms Do Care Program at Beverly Hospital coordinates care for pregnant and early parenting women around mental health needs, substance use and OB/GYN services. We are a multidisciplinary team of doctors, midwives, social workers, therapists, and peer recovery mom/coaches working to enhance services for Beverly Hospital’s pregnant patients and their families.

What You Can Expect

We are a team of compassionate recovery specialists who aim to offer pre- and post-natal care for women with historic or current substance use issues including opioid, stimulant, alcohol and marijuana use. We provide direct access to program staff via phone, text, or in-person meetings.

Our Services

Services include:

  • Individual therapy
  • Group therapy
  • Case management
  • Advocacy for families involved with the Department of Children and Families
  • Birthing, parenting, and breastfeeding classes
  • Peer Coaching and mentorship
  • Pregnancy and gynecologic care in Beverly, Lynn, Danvers, and Gloucester
  • Medication management, including starting buprenorphine, methadone, or vivitrol, and referrals for psychiatric medication management
  • Support through pregnancy and for up to three years after delivery
When You Deliver at Beverly Hospital
  • You will experience enhanced delivery and inpatient care with staff trained in supporting new parents and people in recovery.
  • Rooming in with your newborn is recommended during newborn stay.
  • Our pediatricians use the Eat Sleep Console care model for care of opioid-exposed infants or infants experiencing withdrawal symptoms, which can help decrease how long a baby may need to stay in the hospital.
  • The Compass team will support you while you and your baby are in the hospital.
  • For parents undergoing evaluation by the Department of Children and Families, we provide advocacy around hospital discharge and coordinated care.
