One of Only 36 Hospitals in the United States Selected as Top General Hospital
Gloucester, MA –Addison Gilbert Hospital was named a Top General Hospital for 2024 by The Leapfrog Group in recognition of its achievements in patient safety and quality.
Announced today, The Leapfrog Top Hospital award is widely acknowledged as one of the most competitive awards American hospitals can receive. The Top Hospital designation is bestowed by The Leapfrog Group, a national watchdog organization of employers and other purchasers known for its rigorous standards for health care safety and quality.
“Providing the highest quality patient care is the top priority for Addison Gilbert’s clinicians and staff, and being selected as a Top General Hospital in the country is a clear testament to the diligence and dedication of our entire team,” said Tom Sands, market president – North Shore for Beth Israel Lahey Health and president of Beverly, Addison Gilbert and BayRidge Hospitals. “We are deeply committed to the safety of our patients and are honored to be recognized for the exceptional care that we provide to our community.”
Nearly 2,400 hospitals were considered for the 2024 Top Hospital award. Addison Gilbert is one of only 36 hospitals in the United States to earn the Top General Hospital distinction. A total of 134 Top Hospitals were selected for awards, including:
- 8 Top Children’s Hospitals
- 15 Top Rural Hospitals
- 75 Top Teaching Hospitals
The quality of patient care across many areas of hospital performance is considered in establishing the qualifications for the award, including infection rates, practices for safer surgery, maternity care and the hospital’s capacity to prevent medication errors. The rigorous standards are defined in each year’s Top Hospital Methodology.
"Protecting patients from preventable harm is central to The Leapfrog Group’s mission," said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. "Addison Gilbert Hospital has set the standard for patient safety, earning the prestigious distinction of a Top Hospital. This elite honor reflects the exceptional efforts of the entire team and places Addison Gilbert Hospital among the nation's elite in health care. Congratulations to all who made this remarkable achievement possible."
To qualify for the distinction, hospitals must rank tops among peers on the Leapfrog Hospital Survey, which assesses hospital performance on the highest standards for quality and patient safety, and achieve top performance in their category. View the full list of 2024 Top Hospitals here.
