Beverly and Addison Gilbert Hospitals Nationally Recognized With an ‘A’ Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade

May 10, 2022

Beverly and Gloucester, MA – Beverly and Addison Gilbert Hospitals have each earned an “A” grade for their continued commitment to patient safety in the Spring 2022 Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group. The ratings signify how well hospitals protect patients from preventable harm, including medical errors, injuries and infections within the hospital.

This is the twenty-first time in a row that Beverly Hospital has received the honor, and Beverly Hospital is one of only 22 hospitals in the United States to be awarded an “A” every grading cycle since 2012. This is the nineteenth time that Addison Gilbert Hospital has received this honor.

“The Leapfrog hospital safety ratings are among some of the most recognized awards for patient safety,” said Tom Sands, president of Beverly and Addison Gilbert Hospitals. “To receive this recognition highlights the deep commitment from our staff in creating a culture of safety and ensuring that we provide the highest standard of care for every patient who comes to our hospital.”

The Leapfrog Group, an independent national watchdog organization, assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on over thirty national performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as systems hospitals have in place to prevent harm.

The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program based exclusively on hospital prevention of medical errors and harm to patients. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.

“At Beverly and Addison Gilbert Hospitals, our first priority is providing high quality care in a safe environment,” said Mark Gendreau, MD, chief medical officer at Beverly and Addison Gilbert Hospitals. “As we celebrate Nurses and Hospital Week, we applaud all of our hospital’s healthcare heroes that work tirelessly to uphold these standards of patient safety while helping our patients and their families. The greater Beverly and Gloucester communities should be proud.”

“As our health care system continues to feel the strain of the pandemic, I thank the workforce and leadership of Beverly and Addison Gilbert Hospitals for their sustained commitment to patient safety, day in and day out,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group.
