Alzheimer's Disease & Dementia

Learn More

According to the National Alzheimer's Association, millions of Americans now have Alzheimer's disease or another type of dementia. This includes 5.1 million people who are over age 65 and 200,000 individuals who have younger onset of Alzheimer's. In Massachusetts, the estimated number of individuals who now have Alzheimer's is 120,000. This number is expected to grow to 140,000 by the year 2025.

As part of Lahey Health's comprehensive continuum of care, we offer a number of diagnostic, treatment and support services designed to enhance quality of life for those with Alzheimer's disease and dementia, and provide guidance and support for their caregivers.

  • The Center for Healthy Aging (located at Lahey Outpatient Center, Danvers and at Addison Gilbert Hospital in Gloucester) is a multidisciplinary service devoted to caring for the health needs of North Shore seniors. Alzheimer's disease and dementia are among the many age-related health issues they are exceptionally qualified to assess.
  • Northeast Senior Health's Spectrum Adult Day Health Program in Beverly and North Andover is recognized by the Alzheimer's Association of Massachusetts and provides specialized daytime care for adults with Alzheimer's disease or dementia. The Program offers physical and cognitive assessments on a regular basis and promotes socialization through a variety of failure-free activities. Other services include skilled nursing care, clinical social work, therapeutic activities, and assistance with activities of daily living, medication management, and nutrition and rehabilitation services.
  • Support for those who are caring for a loved one who has Alzheimer's disease is available through our Caregivers' Support Group.

Alzheimer's disease and dementia pose a host of challenges for the whole family. We are here to help.
