Varicose Vein Treatment
Feel more confident in your skin
Varicose Vein Treatment at Beverly Hospital
Varicose veins affect one out of every two people aged 50 and older. Experts estimate that 20-25% of women and 10-15% of men will have varicose veins in their lifetime.
While varicose veins are a common health condition, we understand they can impact your self-esteem.
At Beverly Hospital, you'll find a range of treatment options for your condition. Our team is friendly, respectful, and committed to superior patient care. We treat many people without surgery. If surgery is needed, our minimally invasive techniques can return you to your usual activities faster and with less scarring than in the past.
What Are Varicose Veins?
Varicose veins are unusually swollen due to a problem with the valves in the vein. They may appear bluish in color and stick out above the surface of the skin. They often have a winding or worm-like appearance. Varicose veins typically take years to develop. The condition often runs in families, and women are four times more likely to develop varicose veins than men.
Varicose veins can be caused by:
- Obesity
- Pregnancy, menopause or birth control pills
- Regularly standing on your feet for extended periods of time
- Taking female oral contraceptives (birth control)
- Undergoing hormone replacement therapy
Personalized Approach for the Best Possible Results
Depending on your situation, your doctor may need to treat only the visible varicose veins. In other cases, your doctor also may need to treat the deeper veins that you cannot see on your skin. Your personalized treatment plan may involve surgically removing the visible varicose veins (micro-incision phlebectomy). Another option is to inject chemicals (sclerosants) into the vein (sclerotherapy).
We use leading-edge techniques that have largely replaced older vein-stripping treatments. These newer leg vein techniques offer you several advantages:
- You can drive yourself to and from your procedure.
- You can quickly return to work and your normal activities.
- You will experience little or no discomfort.
- You will have convenient access to a full range of medical services at Beverly Hospital where we perform all procedures.
Get Started
Your varicose vein treatment starts with a consultation with a board-certified and fellowship-trained radiologist. They can see you on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
Consultations and treatments are often covered by insurance with a physician's referral. Self-pay options are also available.
