Pain Management

Easing your discomfort to help you thrive

Pain Management at Beverly Hospital

Pain takes a toll on your quality of life. Things you once enjoyed doing may suddenly be difficult to do. And if you’ve tried to find relief without success, you may think you have no choice but to live with your discomfort.

That’s never the case. At Beverly Hospital, we have a team of specialists who focus on treating acute and chronic pain. We can help you manage your symptoms, enhance your day-to-day functions and get back to doing things that matter to you.

A Team of Pain Specialists

Our experienced, board-certified physicians direct your pain management care. They offer a variety of therapies and advanced procedures to lessen your pain. But they also work closely with other specialists in psychology, physical and occupational therapy, wellness and disease management. Acupuncture, Reiki and massage practitioners are part of the team as well.

Because everyone’s pain is different, everyone’s treatment may be, too. We develop a personalized treatment program that addresses your needs and connects you to specialists who are best equipped to help you find relief. Then, we regularly evaluate your treatment plan and adjust it as needed. In addition to specific treatments, we provide education, counseling and personal support.

Becoming a Patient

If you're living with chronic or acute pain, speak with your primary care provider (PCP) to discuss possible treatment at the Pain Management Center.

When a referral is necessary, your PCP will fill out a referral form and fax it to the Pain Management Center.  After we receive the referral, a member of the center's staff will call you to schedule an appointment. If a referral is not needed, you may contact the Pain Center directly.

At your first appointment, you'll meet with a physician  from the Pain Management Center who is board certified in anesthesia and pain medicine. Or, you may meet with a pain management nurse practitioner and/or physician assistant. Together, they will develop a treatment plan that includes referrals to all of the specialists you'll need.

All diagnostic and treatment services are provided in one convenient location at the Pain Management Center.

Remember to ask your primary care provider to be referred to the Lahey Pain Management Center in Danvers.

Treatments We Offer

Depending on your condition, we may recommend one or more of these treatments:

  • Botox therapy (Injections to treat chronic migraines)
  • High-frequency spinal cord stimulation neuromodulation (Implanting a device that quiets pain signals inside your body. It may be helpful for diabetic neuropathy, as well as back and leg pain.)
  • Implantable techniques (Pain interventions that include spinal cord stimulation or devices that deliver pain medication inside the body, such as tunneled epidurals or spinal catheters. These may help pain caused by cancer, failed back surgery or spasticity.)
  • Injection therapies (Delivering numbing agents and anti-inflammatory drugs to a pain site)
  • Integrative therapies (A combination of medication management, support groups, massage and behavioral counseling. Reiki is another of these treatments. It’s an energy-directed therapy that may help support your body’s natural healing abilities.)
  • Intracept procedure (A minimally invasive outpatient procedure that may help low-back pain. It targets a specific nerve.)
  • Joint injections (Delivering medication directly to painful joints)
  • Kyphoplasty (Minimally invasive technique to repair spinal fractures)
  • Medication therapy (Optimal use of pain-relieving drugs)
  • Minimally invasive lumbar decompression (A procedure that takes pressure off nerves being pinched by spinal stenosis)
  • Physical and occupational therapy (Various tools, including muscle strengthening, flexibility training, gait training, acupressure, and heat and cold treatments to relieve pain)
  • Radio frequency nerve ablation (Using heat to destroy nerves that carry pain impulses)
  • Synvisc injections (Injections that treat knee pain caused by osteoarthritis)
