What To Pack For Your Labor and Delivery Stay

When it's time to go to the hospital for your delivery, we want you to be as prepared as possible to welcome your newborn into the world. While your hospital may provide basic toiletries and supplies, there are items from home that may provide added comfort during your stay.
When preparing your hospital bag, it's a good idea to have everything packed and ready to go at around 36 weeks of pregnancy. Anna McNicholas, Nurse Manger at Beverly Hospital, has several suggestions of what to include for mom, support person, and baby.
Packing Suggestions for Mom
- Pajamas and/or robe
- Comfortable and supportive bras
- Hair brush
- Shampoo and conditioner
- Deodorant
- Make-up
- Shaving cream
- Outfit to wear home
- Clothing from 6-7 months of pregnancy will fit you best
- Any medications you currently take
- Lip balm
- Gum, hard candy, or lollipops
- Contact lenses, solution, and/or eyeglasses
- Tennis ball or back massager
- Extra socks
- Preferred music with speaker or headphones for devices
- Insurance Card
- If you do not have insurance and feel that you may have a financial problem, please contact our Business Office prior to the birth of your baby at 978-816-2207.
- Photo ID
- Re-usable water bottle (for both mom and support person)
Packing Suggestions for Support Person
- Photo ID for birth certificate process
- Cash/credit cards for take-out
- Smart phone or camera
- Chargers
- Routine medications, Tylenol
- Contact lenses, solutions, and/or eyeglasses
- Snacks
- Comfortable clothes/slippers
Packing Suggestions for Baby
- Undershirt
- Blanket
- Sweater set, hat, booties
- Outfit — dress, sleeper, etc.
- Baby book
- Nail file
- Car seat and base
