Breast Imaging
Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is one of the most accurate ways to examine the soft tissue areas of the breasts. It is a safe and painless procedure that uses no x-rays. Instead, MRI combines computer technology with magnets and radio waves to create very clear, highly defined images of the breasts, chest wall and lymph nodes.
MRI allows breast specialists to make earlier and more accurate diagnoses for women at high risk for developing breast cancer. For women who are newly diagnosed with breast cancer, a breast MRI allows medical providers to determine the extent of the disease, to plan for surgery if necessary, and to determine how well patients are responding to treatment.
