Beverly Hospital Wound and Hyperbaric Medicine Center Recognized as Center of Distinction
(Beverly, Mass.) – November 24, 2009 – The Beverly Hospital Wound and Hyperbaric Medicine Center—an outpatient, hospital-based program that specializes in the treatment of problem wounds—was recently recognized as a Center of Distinction by Diversified Clinical Services (DCS), the largest wound care management company in the world. DSC works with approximately 300 wound care centers around the country and the Beverly Hospital Wound and Hyperbaric Medicine Center is one of only 13 nationally to receive this designation. Additionally, the Center is one of only two in Massachusetts and New England to receive the honor.
The Center of Distinction Award recognizes the Center’s success in meeting or exceeding DCS’s company benchmarks for 12 consecutive months. The benchmarks include: healing outcomes, patient satisfaction and days to heal. The Center exceeded the benchmarks significantly in these categories including healing outcomes, where the benchmark is 79.5 percent and the Center achieved 97 percent.
“We are very pleased to be recognized as a Center of Distinction,” said Cheryl Malmborg, MSN, CRRN, CWOCN, director of the Beverly Hospital Wound and Hyperbaric Medicine Center. “Our multidisciplinary team is committed to providing advanced, specialized treatment to those in the community suffering from chronic wounds and this award recognizes that commitment.”
The Center—located at the Cummings Center, Building 500, Suite 1800—is staffed by seven board-certified physicians with Randolph Maloney, M.D. as the Medical Director. Other staff include certified wound nurses and hyperbaric technicians—all with specialized training in advanced wound care and hyperbaric medicine. Hyperbaric medicine, commonly associated with decompression sickness from diving and carbon monoxide poisoning, is a growing trend in wound care where patients are treated in an oxygen-rich chamber, giving the body a major boost in fighting bacteria and encouraging healing.
