Pharmacy Director Receives Award
Director of Pharmacy at Beverly and Addison Gilbert Hospitals Receives Award from Massachusetts Society of Health-System Pharmacists
Peabody resident receives Fellowship Award for 2009
(Beverly/Gloucester, Mass.) – June 15, 2009 – Daniel F. Newberg, MS, RPh, director of pharmacy at Northeast Hospital Corporation, which includes Beverly and Addison Gilbert hospitals, was recently awarded the Massachusetts Society of Health-System Pharmacists (MSHP) Fellowship Award for 2009. The Fellowship Award recognizes pharmacists who have distinguished themselves among others in their profession through excellence in health system pharmacy practice. The Award was presented to Newberg at the MSHP Honors and Awards Banquet held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Boston.
Newberg received his B.S. in Pharmacy from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Science in 1971 and later received his M.S in Management from Lesley University. His past awards and honors include the VHA Northeast Regional Leadership Award for Commitment to Learning Excellence and the MSHP Hospital Pharmacist of the Year Award. He has served as President of the MSHP and has also served two terms as a Massachusetts delegate to the Annual Meeting of the American Society of Health-Systems Pharmacists.
“I am honored to receive the Fellowship Award from the Massachusetts Society of Health-System Pharmacists,” said Newberg. “There are many worthy candidates for this recognition who have shared my commitment to improving pharmacy practice in the health system setting, so I am truly humbled to be recognized in this way.”
Throughout his career, Newberg has been a strong proponent of contemporary pharmacy systems design and clinical practice. He has authored numerous articles and made extensive presentations at the local and national level on strategic planning, staff development, medication safety and expanding the clinical role of pharmacists. He has also taken on the role of educator and holds appointments as Adjunct Faculty at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Science and Northeastern University. Additionally, he developed and oversees the pharmacy Clerkship and Internship Program at NHC. Newberg currently resides in Peabody with his wife of 36 years, Theresa.

The Massachusetts Society of Health-System Pharmacists was founded in 1945 to foster the professional growth of hospital pharmacy in Massachusetts.
