Northeast PHO and MedVentive Recognized as Winner of Microsoft HUG Innovation Award
Northeast Physician Hospital Organization, Inc. (NEPHO), the organization that serves as a liaison between Beverly and Addison Gilbert hospitals' physicians and insurance providers, and MedVentive, the leading provider of integrated performance management solutions for providers and health plans, today announced they have been recognized as winners of the Microsoft Health Users Group (HUG) 2009 Innovation Awards in the category of Interoperability/HIE.
The Microsoft HUG 2009 Innovation Awards recognize organizations that promote breakthroughs by enhancing the quality of patient care, reducing costs, streamlining clinical and business processes, driving interoperability, improving productivity and workflow and enabling informed decisions. Recognized as leaders in the healthcare industry by Microsoft and Microsoft HUG, NEPHO and MedVentive were presented with their award at HIMSS tradeshow on Monday, April 6.
"Our partnership with MedVentive has been the key to our success," said Todd Lowthers, manager of physician services for NEPHO. "The physicians and hospital strive to deliver high quality healthcare to the patients in our community, and we are honored to be recognized by Microsoft for our efforts."
"Interoperability has been talked about by many, but achieved by few - and many of the success stories to date have been focused primarily on data sharing," said Nancy Ham, president of MedVentive. "The ultimate goal, which NEPHO has achieved, is to leverage access to administrative and clinical data integrated from many disparate sources to accomplish demonstrable improvements in patient health. We are thrilled that Microsoft has selected them as the winner."
MedVentive's technology gives NEPHO the ability to provide their physicians with the tools and information needed to manage their patient's care. Physician practices utilize this technology to educate and remind their patients about preventive care. The physicians also have access to up-to-date information on their patients and can track changes over time (positive or negative) that can be discussed with the patient. The technology utilized provides a more comprehensive picture regarding the patient's current health and allows the physician and patient to develop a collaborative plan to maintain or improve their health.
"NEPHO and their partner MedVentive exemplified what the Microsoft HUG Awards are meant to recognize. NEPHO utilized MedVentive's Microsoft-based technology platform in a way that improved communications and interoperability between different healthcare constituencies, resulting in improved clinical and business performance. At the end of the day, both NEPHO and MedVentive are tangibly reaching the goal we're all trying to achieve - better quality of care for the patient population," said Chris Sullivan, U.S. health provider health solutions director, Microsoft Corp.
