Local Girl Scouts Make Donation To Benefit Beverly Hospital Pediatric Patients
(Beverly, MA) -Hamilton and Wenham Junior Girl Scout Troup 479 recently visited Beverly Hospital to distribute DVD’s and homemade get-well cards as part of a community service project they created to help local children. The DVD’s will be used in the pediatric unit of the hospital to provide entertainment for patients while bringing a little comfort from home during their hospital stay.
“We are so thankful for the thoughtfulness of the Girl Scouts who gave their time and effort to make this donation for our pediatric patients,” said Candy Sklarz, clinical manager of the pediatric unit at Beverly Hospital. “I’m certain that our patients will appreciate and enjoy the updated collection of DVD’s.”
The fifth and sixth grade girls of Troop 479 started the community service project last November in an effort to earn their Bronze Awards. The award requires that Girl Scouts work together to complete a project that shows a commitment to helping others while improving their community. When brainstorming for ideas, the girls drew upon some of their own experiences with hospital stays as well as those of their siblings. They remembered the enjoyment that they got from watching DVD’s during their visits and wanted to complete the project to add to the selection available to pediatric patients at Beverly Hospital.
