Community Open House
Beverly Hospital Wound and Hyperbaric Medicine Center To Hold Community Open House
(Beverly, MA)-On Friday, February 15, 2008, a community open house is planned at the Beverly Hospital Wound and Hyperbaric Medicine Center--an outpatient, hospital-based program that works in conjunction with the patient’s primary care physician and specializes in the treatment of problem wounds--to celebrate the one-year anniversary of the center’s opening. During the open house, which takes place from 2 to 4 p.m., staff will provide refreshments along with tours of the facility highlighting some of its state-of-the-art equipment, such as the hyperbaric oxygen chambers, and specialized treatment capabilities.
Beverly Hospital opened the center last year in an effort to further expand its clinical capabilities and to help fulfill a growing health need in the community. Problem wounds, a growing problem spurred by the aging of America and the increase in diabetes, affect about six million Americans. In the North Shore area it is estimated that there are close to 12,000 people with some type of a slow-to-heal wound or skin ulcer.
"Chronic wounds can be quite painful and getting relief requires the most up-to-date approaches to problem wound healing including advanced wound dressing, bioengineered skin replacement and in some situations, hyperbaric oxygen therapy," said Cheryl Malmborg, MSN, CRRN, CWOCN, director of the center. "We’re pleased to be able to offer this type of advanced, specialized treatment to those in the community suffering from chronic wounds in a location that is convenient and accessible from where they receive ongoing care."
The center--located at the Cummings Center, Building 500, Suite 1800--is staffed by nine board-certified physicians with Randolph Maloney, M.D. as the Medical Director. Other staff includes certified wound nurses and hyperbaric technicians--all with specialized training in advanced wound care and Hyperbaric Medicine. Hyperbaric Medicine, commonly associated with decompression sickness from diving and carbon monoxide poisoning, is a growing trend in wound care where patients are treated in an oxygen-rich chamber, giving the body a major boost in fighting bacteria and encouraging healing.
If you would like to RSVP for the upcoming open house or are interested in more information about the Beverly Hospital Wound and Hyperbaric Medicine Center and the specialized services it provides, please call 978-921-1210.
