AIDS Memorial Quilt to be on Display
AIDS Memorial Quilt to be on Display at Beverly Hospital Quilt will serve as visual reminder of the impact of AIDS and the importance of prevention and education.
(Beverly, MA) - On November 8, 2007, from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., Beverly Hospital will showcase eight panels of the AIDS memorial quilt as part of an early observance of World AIDS Day. The largest ongoing community arts project in the world, the quilt contains more than 40,000 colorful panels in total, each sewn by family members and friends as a memorial to the loved ones they’ve lost to AIDS.
"In many ways the quilt serves as a visual reminder of the impact that AIDS has in communities everywhere, including our own," said Susan Corcoran, a financial counseling supervisor at Beverly Hospital who helped to organize the event. "We were very happy to be able to secure a portion of the quilt to display for this occasion."
In addition, this free public event, co-sponsored by Health Quarters, will offer free rapid HIV testing and feature guest speakers addressing AIDS prevention, living with HIV and learning to cope with losing a loved one to this disease. Representatives from Beverly Hospital, Health Quarters, Health & Education Services and Strongest Link will be on-hand to answer questions, assist with health insurance related matters and provide informative materials.
"We cannot afford to become complacent about HIV education and prevention," said Sarah Kennedy, director of community education at Health Quarters. "While the scientific community continues to search for a cure, we need to educate the community about this epidemic."
Free parking and valet services will be available for the event. For more information, please call 978-236-1650 or visit www.beverlyhospital.org.
