CAB Health and Recovery Services Celebrates Women in Recovery
Event honors women recovering from addiction
Danvers, Mass. - May 20, 2009 - On Tuesday, May 19, 2009, CAB Health and Recovery Services hosted their 12th annual Women in Recovery, a special ceremony to celebrate women who have committed to drug- and alcohol-free lives. Speakers shared personal stories of recovering from addiction.
More than 145 clients, alumni, staff, and CAB board members and supporters attended the event at the Danvers Treatment Center. Women from CAB's various treatment programs participated in the celebration, including many from Hart House, Ryan House, and Spiritus, residential programs for women who have experienced substance abuse, domestic violence, and/or mental health issues. The theme for this year's Women in Recovery event was Taking Back our Lives.
"We are proud of these women who have committed to recovery," said Kevin Norton, president and CEO of CAB. "Treatment makes a difference, but recovery makes a life, and for these women, this is a celebration of their new life."
Among other treatment services, CAB provides a supportive, highly individualized, and family-centered treatment program for women struggling with substance abuse. Women in Recovery is an annual event to honor women and their personal journeys from drug addiction to recovery.
"These women are building trust, safe relationships and dignity," said Marty Dunphy, residential supervisor of Spiritus. "This is such a positive event, particularly seeing these women who are finding their voice-often for the first time-taking back their lives, and reconnecting in their community."
CAB board chair Vincent Martelli added, "This event is such an inspiration. So many stories of hope in the face of hopelessness. It's a huge testament to CAB's impact in touching and changing people's lives."
